For me, it has taken years of study to even get started. Before this, I was an unpaid intern. The people pulling in the big pay checks and bonuses are a very small percentage of the broker workforce. Films with stockbrokers usually have a cool leading man surrounded by a swathe of vulgar, sweaty, shouty characters that seem to make profits more by luck than judgement.
Wheeling and dealing, buying and selling; most brokers and traders are living for the moment and will risk everything to make that quick buck, right? Since then, I have definitely noticed a culture change.
